Jay Samit may be in charge of all things Internet for EMI, but his first career incarnation — magician — might be more appropriate to the business of music on the Web.
Samit put himself through college with magic, an art he still practices. And because music is the canary in the coal mine when it comes to online entertainment, getting it right will be a very good trick.
Samit, 40, is EMI’s senior vice president for new media, a position he has held since April 1999.
At that time, EMI had a negligible Internet presence, but now it’s arguably the most innovative music major spearheading the shift into digital distribution.
